Access Asia:  Culinary Flavors of Asia

Date: October 19th, 2009 from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m.

Location: Viking School of Culinary Arts

Cost:  FREE for those who RSVP; closed event

Chefs from local restaurants will be serving up their best off-menu dishes in a cooking competition.  The participating restaurants include:

·               Myung-Ga (Korean)

·               Rice (Japanese)

·               Tandoor (Indian)

·               J. Wong’s  (Chinese)

·               Café Trang (Vietnamese)

·               Pad Thai (Thai)

Attendees will be able to sample great Asian cuisine from around the world and then vote on your favorite.  The “people’s choice” will receive an award crafted by O.C. Tanner.   It should be a fun casual evening with delicious food!  Other invited guests include Zions Bank CEO Scott Anderson, Salt Lake County Mayor Peter Corroon, and State Senator Ross Romero.

The Viking School of Culinary Arts is located at 2233 South 300 East. Parking is available in front of the Viking School and along the street on 300 East. Attendees may also park in the LDS Church lot half a block south of Viking School.

Featured Dish: Bulgogi with Steamed Rice

This traditional Korean dish is made from thin slices of prime-cut beef and marinated with a secret soy sauce mixture. Otherwise known as "fire meat" in Korean, this dish is prepared over a barbecue grill.

This traditional Thai dish consists of stir-fried rice noodles with a combination of meats, vegetables, and a special blend of spices. This dish is often covered with a spicy sauce made of lime juice and red chili peppers.

This Japanese dish includes a variety of hand-rolled sushi made with a combination of vegetables, crab, fish, and/or cream cheese. Best served with soy sauce, wasabi and ginger.

Featured Dish: Cilantro chicken with Lemon Rice

This traditional Indian dish is prepared by flavoring the chicken with a secret curry sauce made with spices obtained outside of Utah. This dish is usually served with steamed rice or Naan Indian flat bread.
